Last month, CancerCare made the difficult decision to cancel our national gala to ensure the safety of our supporters, our staff and the public at large. We hosted an online auction and donation opportunity in its place to fund the free, professional support services that are now more necessary than ever.

CancerCare is closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) and would like to share some helpful guidelines to follow as we navigate this situation together.

To ensure the safety of our clients and staff, all CancerCare services will now be delivered via telephone or electronically due to public health concerns. While our office locations in New York, New Jersey and Long Island are currently closed, telephone services, online services and our thrift shop in Manhattan are operating normally.

Our social workers are what set CancerCare apart from other support organizations, and each year during National Social Work Month, we highlight the people behind our clinical programs and services.

On Tuesday, February 4, the Sephora store located in Columbus Circle hosted CancerCare clients for a hands-on Brave Beauty in the Face of Cancer Class for Confidence in honor of World Cancer Day.

For the fourth year, CancerCare, in partnership with Flatiron Health, hosted a fun-filled Winter Wonderland Holiday Party. The party was open to all of CancerCare’s clients, including families, adults and caregivers affected by cancer. Flatiron Health graciously hosted 80+ children, adults and staff members in their office space in the Soho neighborhood of New York City.

CancerCare would like to thank the Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) New York Association once again for their generosity during this holiday season. This national academic honor society recently donated funds and holiday presents for children and teens to CancerCare, as part of its 2019 Holiday Celebration & Toy Drive.

Hi, my name is Toni, and I’m Wanda Leguillow’s partner. Wanda and I met in Cathedral High School’s graduating class of 1975 and reconnected in 2005. Wanda was a beautiful, loving, caring, soft-spoken, nurturing, intelligent woman with a soft healing touch and a favorite four-letter word. Her voice could tame a lion. She was the calm to my storm.
