Helping Students Affected by Cancer Head Back to School

As fall approaches, children, teens and their families are preparing for a new school year. For families affected by cancer, the cost and time involved in purchasing school supplies can add to an already difficult period.

Now in its 11th year, CancerCare for Kids’ Back-to-School Program provides new, age-appropriate school supplies to students in pre-K through 12th grade across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. This year, CancerCare staff packed backpacks with notebooks, colored pencils, crayons and other essentials for 112 students from 45 families. Each student also received a personalized card.

By helping students start the school year with the supplies they need, the program eases some of the financial and practical burdens families face and gives them more time to focus on one another.
