CancerCare® Receives Grant from The New York Community Trust to Support New Yorkers Affected by Cancer

Furthering a partnership that has spanned four decades, The New York Community Trust is granting CancerCare® $300,000 to help provide financial assistance to low-income New York City residents and their families who are affected by cancer.

“Since our first grant to CancerCare, progress in cancer research has led to earlier detection and more effective treatments. Yet patients navigating a cancer diagnosis still need financial and emotional support through services like transportation, assistance with co-payments, and referrals to social workers,” said Rachel Pardoe, The Trust’s program director for accessibility, older adults, and technical assistance. “Thanks to the foresight of our legacy donors, we are proud to continue supporting CancerCare's critical work to meet these essential needs.”

Ranking among the country’s largest community foundations, The New York Community Trust has supported charities in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester for more than 100 years. Since the 1980s, The New York Community Trust has donated over $20 million in support of CancerCare's mission.

“The New York Community Trust has allowed us to help thousands of New York families over the years as they navigate the many challenges of cancer,” said CancerCare CEO Christine Verini. “Thanks to this support, we can continue to help many more New Yorkers. We remain extremely grateful.”

As the leading national nonprofit providing free, professional support services to anyone affected by cancer, CancerCare offers emotional, practical and financial assistance to people in treatment, post-treatment, caregivers and the bereaved. The Orland S. and Frances S. Greene Fund at The New York Community Trust
The Trust’s grants to CancerCare are made possible, in part, by the Orland S. and Frances S. Greene Fund, which it has used to support CancerCare since 1985. Orland was a successful stockbroker on Wall Street who died from cancer in 1961, after a long illness. In his will, he established a fund at The Trust to support the treatment of cancer patients with financial need. Read more at https://thenytrust.org/news/orland-smith-green
