Managing Medicare Drug Costs

Prescription drug costs can be overwhelming.
Medicare offers several ways to help.

FACT SHEET

PRESCRIPTION DRUG CAP

There is now a yearly limit on your Medicare Part D drug costs.

In 2026, you will pay no more than $2,100 for medicines covered by your Medicare drug plan. Everyone with Medicare drug coverage gets this limit—no sign-up needed.

MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION PAYMENT PLAN

You can spread out your Medicare prescription costs into smaller monthly payments.

Pay over time instead of all at once.

• You will get a monthly bill from your drug plan instead of paying at the pharmacy.

• Your payment plan bill is separate from your Medicare Part D premium bill.

• All of your covered Medicare Part D drugs will be added to your payment plan.

Anyone with Medicare prescription drug coverage can sign up.

If you want to participate, you must sign up for the payment plan.

• There is no fee to use the payment plan.

• You sign up through your drug plan, not at the pharmacy.

• Enrollment is open year-round.

• You can stop at any time.
