CancerCare is a national nonprofit agency that provides free professional counseling, educational programs, financial assistance and practical help to people with cancer, their loved ones and the bereaved.
OPEN POSITIONS
Social Worker
New York, New York
Responsible for providing counseling, information, referrals and education over the telephone to people whose lives are affected by cancer. Primary focus is to address caller’s immediate concerns and problems, educate callers about CancerCare’s free services, assess callers need for follow-up counseling services, and make appropriate referrals to community services.
- Counsels helpline callers as appropriate
- Makes follow-up calls to helpline callers as needed
- Responds to other inquires including requests for educational materials, financial assistance, and community resources
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records by entering all information needed for processing client into helpline tracking database.
Requirements, Education and Skills
MA in Social Work and must have excellent data entry skills, strong verbal skills, including a clear and distinct speaking voice, solid writing, telephone, and interpersonal skills for hotline support. This individual must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and follow-up skills.
Rotating shift required. Helpline open from 9 AM – 7 PM. (Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM).
