CancerCare® Celebrates its 17th Annual Lung Cancer Walk for Hope

CancerCare is set to host its 17th Annual Lung Cancer Walk for Hope at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course, located at 1 S Woods Rd in Woodbury, N.Y., on Sunday, November 3, 2019. The Lung Cancer Walk for Hope raises critical funds to support CancerCare’s free, professional services provided to anyone affected by cancer.

Walkers of all ages are welcome to participate. Registration and check in begin at 8:00 a.m. The event kicks off with an opening ceremony at 9:00 a.m., and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Both individuals and teams can register in advance.

This community-based event brings together friends and families to walk in memory of those they have lost to lung cancer, celebrate survivors and support those who are currently facing a lung cancer diagnosis.

Kim Pellizzi, CancerCare’s Lung Cancer Walk Chair, has been walking and fundraising with her family for the past 16 years. She’s also organized and hosted a bowling fundraiser, “Strike Out Cancer,” for the past 13 years. Pellizzi used CancerCare’s services after her mother passed away from lung cancer and has been giving back to the organization since.

“Life never ends, it just changes form,” she says. “This walk is always bittersweet. I’m proud of my team, The Butterflies, and I’m honored to walk in memory of my mother, who loved butterflies. CancerCare has given my family and me so much, and I’m happy to give back.”

“For 17 years, the Lung Cancer Walk for Hope has been an essential part of the CancerCare Lung Cancer Support Program,” says Patricia J. Goldsmith, CEO of CancerCare. “We are deeply grateful to our Long Island community for their hard work and commitment in support of our organization.”

Registration fees are $35 per adult (23 and older), $20 per student (ages 13-22) or $10 for children under the age of 12. Awards will be presented to the top individual and team fundraisers. The event will be held rain or shine.

CancerCare thanks the following event sponsors and community partners: The Butterflies, Ices for Andrea, French Presse, Geico, NYU Winthrop Hospital, Pivotal Planning Group LLC, The Walking Company, UBS, AMF East Meadow Lanes, Anton Media Group, WBAB & WBLI, Hint Water, Holiday Inn, Panera Bread, Town Bagel, Lessings, ShopRite, Suburban Eats, and the Town of Oyster Bay.
