CancerCare Connect Series Wins Prestigious Award for Best Health Care Consumer Publication

Free booklet series provides patient-friendly information on coping with cancer, side effects, latest treatments and other important information for anyone facing a cancer diagnosis

New York, November 3, 2006--CancerCare's signature Connect® booklet series was singled out for excellence last night at New York City's famous Tavern on the Green, where it snagged the coveted Silver Award for Health Care Consumer Publication of the Year, during the third annual Medical Marketing and Media (MM&M) Awards dinner.

The annual MM&M awards symbolize the best, most effective and creative work in healthcare marketing and communications. MM&M is the leading industry publication serving healthcare marketers since 1966.

CancerCare is the national non-profit that has been providing free counseling and support services to people with cancer and their loved ones for more than 60 years. It has been publishing it Connect booklet series since 2003. Over the last three years, CancerCare has released 25 titles and distributed more than 700,000 copies to people with cancer and health care professionals. The series provides information on coping with cancer and treatment side effects, and addresses not only medical information, but also the emotional and practical concerns faced by people with cancer and their loved ones.

"Our Connect® booklets truly fill a void in patient education materials," said Diane Blum, MSW, executive director of CancerCare. "While many cancer publications focus on medical information, our booklets really simplify complicated concepts in treatment and provide helpful suggestions and resources for coping with cancer's emotional journey."

One oncology nurse from Ohio who regularly distributes the booklets to her patients describes the Connect booklets "as a great teaching tool for when people are so totally overwhelmed by their diagnosis." The MM&M Award judges agreed, lauding the series as "well done--and good for the patient."

All CancerCare Connect® booklets may be downloaded free of charge from CancerCare's website, www.cancercare.org, or ordered by calling 800-813-HOPE (4673). For more information about the MM&M awards, visit www.mmm-online.com/awards/.
