Third Annual CancerCare® Greenwich Walk/Run for Hope

GREENWICH, CT (April 13, 2015) – CancerCare is set to host its Third Annual Walk/Run for Hope at spectacular Greenwich Point Park in Old Greenwich, Conn. on Sunday, May 3, 2015. The Walk/Run for Hope is a series of family-friendly 5K events that raise funds to support CancerCare’s free, professional services provided to anyone affected by cancer.

Walkers and runners of all levels and ages are welcome to participate. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. The event will kick off at 9 a.m. with a Children’s half mile Fun Run, followed by the 5K at 9:15 a.m. The 5K course is USATF-sanctioned. Both individuals and teams can enter by registering at www.cancercare.org/walkgreenwich.

“CancerCare is always there to provide support to anyone coping with a cancer diagnosis. On May 3, we can join together as a community to walk/run and raise funds for these essential services at Greenwich Point,” said Connecticut State Representative, House District 151, and Honorary Event Chair Fred Camillo. “As a cancer survivor, I know that facing this illness can be overwhelming. An organization like CancerCare makes certain that you won’t have to face it alone.”

This community-based event brings together friends and families to walk or run in memory of those they have lost to cancer, honor survivors and support those who are currently facing a cancer diagnosis. Registration fees for the event are $40 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under and $10 for children for the Fun Run only. All participants will receive a commemorative Walk/Run for Hope t-shirt. Awards will be presented to the top male and female participants in both the overall race and age-based categories. Greenwich High School students will be on hand to entertain children with arts and crafts. The event will be held rain or shine and parking is free.

In Connecticut, CancerCare provides services through its Norwalk location. Mary, a Connecticut resident, was forced to quit her job due to extensive treatment for stage 4 breast cancer two years ago. She also lost her hair. “My hospital suggested I contact CancerCare, so I first came in for a wig and a very good lady helped me. Last summer I returned and asked for financial assistance,” shares Mary. “It was a great help to me because I could no longer afford my rent and pay for treatment. I was alone. I didn’t have anyone else to help me.”

CancerCare’s Third Annual Greenwich Walk/Run for Hope is sponsored by Fleet Feet Sports, Teva, Becker Salon, Genentech and TMK Sports & Entertainment. Media sponsors are News 12 Connecticut, WGCH 1490 AM, Serendipity Magazine and Jen Danzi.
