Sixth Annual Lung Cancer Walk Sets New Record!

Top fundraising team honors went to Team OSI,
which raised over $17,500 to receive the
Corporate Help and Hope Award.
More than 700 people braved the first chill of autumn on Long Island on November 2 to participate in CancerCare's 6th Annual Lung Cancer Walk, raising a record $165,000 for CancerCare's National Lung Cancer program.

Nearly 50 teams, along with families and individuals, walked the five-mile course through the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course in Woodbury to raise funds for the national program, which offers free counseling, educational programs and practical assistance to anyone affected by a lung cancer diagnosis.

Top fundraising corporate team honors went to Team OSI, which raised over $17,500; and to the family and friends team, For Our Heroes, which raised more than $12,700 for the national program.

Islanders' star Chris Campoli and Gabe Leung, President of OSI Oncology, officially start the Walk.

New York Islanders' Chris Campoli made a personal appearance to present the school awards to the Stony Brook University Pre-Med Society for top fundraising and top team building. Stony Brook was one of several schools represented at the walk. The Islanders star also presided over the raffle of an autographed team jersey of Islanders' Captain Bill Guerin while the Islanders' mascot, Sparky, was on hand to entertain and cheer on the walkers.

As in past years, participants paused to honored

loved ones affected by lung cancer at the Wall of Hope, where they posted personal messages, photos and mementos of remembrance and support. Tribute messages can also be posted online at CancerCare's Virtual Wall of Hope.

In addition to generous supporters like you, CancerCare extends our deepest gratitude to founding sponsor OSI Pharmaceuticals Foundation, and to our other sponsors: Deloitte, Winthrop-University Hospital, New York Biotechnology Association, Town of Oyster Bay, Titan Cares and the New York Islanders.

Supervisor John Venditto of the Town of Oyster Bay, who generously donated the beautiful venue.

Through December 31, CancerCare will continue to accept donations for the 6th Annual Lung Cancer Walk in order to meet our fundraising goal of $200,000. Please encourage your family and friends to donate to the cause. And, make sure your donors check with their employers to find out if they will match their gifts (please remind them to fill out the necessary forms provided by their employer).

Here are two more ways you can help us
meet our goal:

—Celebrate at Applebee's on November 13!
Take your family and friends to Applebee's in Huntington, New York on Thursday, November 13 and present the Applebee's Flyer to your server, and 10% of the proceeds will be donated to the Walk.

—Purchase Lung Cancer Walk Merchandise!
For a limited time while supplies last, you can purchase a 6th Annual Lung Cancer Walk t-shirt, sweatshirt, CancerCare backpack or aluminum water bottle. Donations and purchases can be made online.
