When someone we love dies, a period of grief usually follows. Grief is a normal, though painful, response to a loved one’s death. For more than 60 years, CancerCare has helped people cope with grief through support, information, and practical help. We offer an array of services to help you along your grief experience. Turn to us for comforting, professional support.
All of CancerCare’s bereavement services are free for everyone. We offer services in both English and Spanish.
- CancerCare Counseling™: Professional
counseling with a CancerCare social worker provides a safe, supportive
environment to understand, adjust and explore your feelings about life without
your loved one. You can receive counseling as
an individual, or through professionally facilitated support groups.

- CancerCare Connect®: Our Telephone Education Workshops (TEWs) connect grief experts to those coping with grief.
- CancerCare Inform®: The more you know about the grief process, the better you will be equipped to handle it. We offer a series of fact sheets to help people who are coping with the loss of a loved one.
- CancerCare Assist®: CancerCare’s expert social workers also provide practical support for the bereaved. They can help you understand legal and financial issues, and can assist you in finding resources in your community to help you with respite care, funeral planning, and estate planning services.
