In Their Words

The Visual Diaries workshop became a way for me to start opening up, because the focus was on the creative process, not the cancer.

—Lara P., Visual Diaries participant

During a 12-week Visual Diaries workshop conducted by the Creative Center and CancerCare in 2008 and 2009, participants learned about photography and shared their personal cancer stories. The resulting collection of images and video installations was on display at a recent gallery exhibition in NYC and illustrated the wide spectrum of experiences and emotions felt by these photographers — all young adults facing cancer — through diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.
