Focus On: Survivorship Issues

If you have recently completed your cancer treatment, you may find yourself facing a number of emotional, physical and practical concerns such as long-term side effects from treatment, fear of recurrence and financial challenges.

CancerCare oncology social workers can help you cope with these complex concerns. We also offer support groups that connect you with other post-treatment survivors, and podcasts of our Telephone Education Workshops, Finding Hope and Meaning After Treatment and My Treatment is Over: Why Do I Feel So Alone and Sad?

For more information, or to speak with an oncology social worker, please call us at 1-800-813-HOPE (4673).

Reminder

Reminder: Ask CancerCare

Ask CancerCare lets you submit a question to our experts on a different topic each month. During June, get answers about managing financial concerns after a cancer diagnosis.

For Professionals:
Treatment Effects on Skin

While most patients are not initially concerned about skin-related side effects before beginning cancer treatments, nearly 80% are concerned about the effects they experience as a result of treatment—namely, irritation, rash and dryness—as a recent survey by CancerCare and Lindi Skin® showed.

Patients need to be better informed about possible skin problems prior to beginning treatments, the survey findings suggest. That's why CancerCare offers the fact sheet, "Caring for Your Skin During Cancer Treatment" , which provides tips and information about managing the skin conditions your patients may be experiencing.

Managing Your Cancer:
Strength Through Sharing

Often, learning about how others are coping with their cancer diagnosis can be a source of strength and inspiration. In our Stories of Help and Hope, you can meet some of the people who have benefited from CancerCare's services and learn how they have coped with their diagnosis.

In Their Words

"I've been a steady member of a CancerCare support group for the past two years. I tell anyone with cancer that a support group is the place to go to feel free to express any feeling—fear, anxiety, loss, faith—anything—without fear of judgment."

Laurel, lung cancer survivor and member of CancerCare's lung cancer support group
