CancerCare
Focus On: Melanoma

A diagnosis of melanoma raises many questions: How will my cancer be treated? What side effects will I experience? How do I adjust to life after treatment?

Since melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer, people diagnosed with melanoma may receive more extensive treatment than people with other types of skin cancer.

CancerCare is here to help. Our professional oncology social workers can work with you one-on-one or in a support group. People being treated for melanoma may experience fatigue, nausea and rash. Our Connect® booklets offer tips on how to manage these side effects. Find out about additional resources for people with melanoma.

Managing Your Cancer:
Finding Support Online

A good way to find support and resources is to connect with others who have "been there." Online support groups are beginning in June, and are moderated by professional oncology social workers. We offer groups for people with specific diagnoses, caregivers, and the bereaved. Visit our website to learn more.

In Their Words

"When I was first diagnosed, I was thinking, 'I need help. I need someone to talk to.' Explaining it to your family is not the same thing. You need to talk to others going through the same thing."
