Director of Annual Giving

Responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive, strategic, integrated effort to build the base of individual donors and increase the level of philanthropic support through a variety of campaigns and programs. The annual goal for the annual giving program is $1 million. The Director will be responsible for a year-round cultivation and solicitation program that is to be built via the establishment of a leadership giving society, direct mail, newsletters, and web-based campaigns. One of the principal goals of the annual giving program is to identify major gift prospects and, when appropriate, begin to introduce major and planned giving concepts.
The Director will report to the Chief Development Officer (CDO). He/She will also work with key development staff to raise the revenue necessary to attain the established fundraising goals. These relationships will be characterized by effective communication, a positive attitude and commitment to the growth of CancerCare and the fulfillment of its mission through a mutual understanding of the development objectives of the organization.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop a working knowledge of CancerCare in general and funding priorities specifically so as to articulate and prepare compelling materials to cultivate and solicit prospects and donors.
- Develop a written master plan and calendar for all phases of annual giving.
- Establish a strong leadership giving society as well as special campaigns run throughout the year.
- Work closely with the CDO and the Director of Major Gifts regarding special and repeat gifts.
- In conjunction with the Communications team, prepare written and web-based communications including letters, brochures, newsletters and other materials necessary for all components of the annual giving program.
- Work closely with the Data and Gift Processing Manager to monitor and track timely corporate matching gifts for all annual giving and special events programs.
- Prepare monthly annual giving progress reports as they relate to program goals and objectives.
- Maintain annual giving budgets, financial reports and records.
- Cultivate and maintain long-term donor relationships.
- Work with the regional and national offices to create successful fundraising and public relations.
- Prepare year-end reports that provide in-depth analysis of results and recommendations that will shape future plans and improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 5 – 7 years of job related experience in annual giving (national direct mail and on-line giving experience preferred)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Raisers Edge
- Practical knowledge of annual giving operations and an understanding of what it takes to expand donor and prospect participation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Meticulous organizational, project and time management skills – must have knowledge and desire to multi task and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Participate in evening and weekend activities as necessary
- Strong customer relations skills and exceptional interpersonal skills
