Cancer Care Launches Latest Edition of
A Helping Hand: The Resource Guide for People with Cancer
New York, NY, July 27, 2006 - A Helping Hand, one of the most comprehensive resource guides for people with cancer and their loved ones is now available in a fifth edition. This 110-page handbook details cancer-related assistance available from national organizations that have all been evaluated by CancerCare’s expert social workers.
“One of the barriers to quality patient care is a lack of knowledge about what resources are out there,” said Jackie Zahora, program coordinator for resources at CancerCare. “A Helping Hand is a roadmap that helps patients and their families see not only which organizations can help, but exactly what kind of assistance they provide. Doctors and nurses can also rely on Helping Hand for accurate information about what services are out there for their patients.”
A Helping Hand’s easy-to-use format includes icons for quick referral, as well as an index to search by type of cancer or type of service. The guide also provides information on “How to Find Resources in Your Community,” “Finding Reliable Information on the Web,” and “Finding Counseling and Support Groups,” among others.
